On September 2, 2021, NACHAM Africa received the visit of the Resident Representative of UNFPA-BURUNDI Mr. Richmond TIEMOKO at the Prince Regent Charles Hospital.
This visit is part of the will of this personality to realize the intervention of NACHAM AFRICA in favor of vulnerable patients in general and the achievements of the program in charge of the fight against gender-based violence and empowerment of women in particular.
The coordinator of the GBV program, Dr Elyse NSHIMIRIMANA gave a brief presentation of the achievements and the approach used by NACHAM AFRICA volunteers to assist victims of GBV which continued with a theatrical presentation by the volunteers of NACHAM AFRICA on the different types of GBV in front of more than 120 patients and sick guards.
4 beneficiaries of that program gave testimonies on their respective stories which show that GBV is a reality in the community and that the hospital environment is full of victims who suffer in silence.
In his speech, the representative of UNFPA praised the achievements of this NACHAM AFRICA program which go in the direction of one of the objectives of UNFPA namely O VBG by 2035, he subsequently appreciated the he approach used by NACHAM AFRICA through the sensitization and information of patients and caregivers during their hospital stay, which constitutes an innovation in itself and promises opportunities for collaboration in the days to come.
On the sidelines of this day, reusable sanitary napkins were distributed and to continue to preserve the dignity of these vulnerable girls and women during menstruation, not to mention face masks and soaps to continue to protect against covid 19.
